EOC Week 8 - Discussion Questions

1. Why do consumers feel such a close attachment to their bags?

Consumers have a close attachment to their bags because they are viewed as an investment to their wardrobe. Women rely on approval from their closest peers because it represents a woman’s identity.

2. What is your favorite brand of bag, briefcase, or backpack, and why? How does this brand reflect your personality? Do you think you will ever switch to a different brand?

One of my favorite bags is my Steve Madden chain link purse. I think that it reflects my personality by how it is kind of edgy but its simple at the same time. I like to be casual but not casual to the point where I look sloppy. I usually always switch brands, I am not a one brand minded kind of person so it isn’t all that hard for me to switch purses/brands.

3. Now that you have read this chapter, go to www.dantebeatrix.com and explain how the company has evolved. What is the latest news? How do you think the line reflects current fashion?

The company has evolved into much more than what they had originally had sought out. They offer items now that are more of a necessity than what you would initially think. Little kid backpacks with wheels, eco-friendly stroller bags. It’s not something you would have thought of 10-15 years ago. With “Going Green” being the latest trend amongst consumers, having an eco-friendly lunch bag for your child is a great way to introduce the concept to them, especially at such a young age.

4. Why do you think Dante Beatrix is so successful with the company’s ideas to pursue graphic design instead of just focusing on bag design? Is branding the key that drives you to purchase a bag, briefcase, or backpack? Look at a bag you have now. Is it designer? What is the brand? What features really make it special, or is it really just the name that makes it unique? Describe your answers in detail.

I think focusing on graphic designs is great for the company because it reaches out to the younger market. Little kids don’t want a paisley print backpack. They want the fun, quirky animal that they can relate too. The stroller bags for the mothers are more of a subtle design because you want to be fashionable but not super cheesy when carrying around diapers and baby food.
